It looks like you have to be a level 55 to get to this level 40 area? Any hints?

STV --> Darkshire --> Deadwind Pass --> Swamp of Sorrows

Stay off the roads and it's no problem.

Or sweet talk a warlock and 2 of his buddies with the fly point to summon you. :D I made the run myself. I kept in the woods around Darkshire and then stayed on the road once I got to Dead Wind pass. Then I just hauled butt to SOS.

what he said...except stay "ON" the roads. :) You won't even likely see a single mob in deadwind pass.

just make sure you steer clear of the alliance town and you'll be all good.

In DWP, yes stay on the roads. In the others, it's safer to keep off.

That's true. If you run through the alliance town you will have the guards on your ass the whole way. Their guards don't stop after 5 feet....they keep coming and coming and coming. I've made the run a couple of times. The first time we passed the entrance and ended up having to hearth out because we were in Burning Steppes. It was all good though...we made it the next time. But if going it alone just stay off the roads like stated. :D

Quite frankly, I thought it was very entertaining running to SoS with a small, rag-tag group of low 40's when we did it.

The run takes you through some contested area with no Horde presence.. so it was really interesting to see skeletons of the dead Alliance 20-somethings that had trouble fighting off 1 MoB aggro spiders along the road...

But, yeah... they'll call in help when they are really being griefed...

Darkshire was a pain in the ass, we rode through that accidentally the one night, the guards followed us from Darkshire all the way to Redridge (since we got lost) Why don't our guards do that?

OMG! I dig that place... As an Herbalism/Alchemist There's TONS of Fadeleaf, Blindweed, and Khadgar's Whiskers all over that zone...

It's relatively quiet for low 40 grinding, and there's TONS of Fadeleaf, Blindweed, and Khadgar's Whiskers all over the zone...

Did I mention that there's tons of Fadeleaf, Blindweed, and Khadgar's Whiskers laying around? And Fadeleaf?

Thanks for the help. I was trying to decide if running was the best way or if I should change to Seal form and swim there. Guess I'll run. :D

I need to get my herbalism up so I can get the fadeleaf. Since as a rogue I need it for the blinding powder. Forgot it was in there.

I did too. And watching the lowbies looking around to find the best place to hide was hilarious. :D

Barks, barks, barks...I would be pleased to take you on the guided tour from Stranglethorn to Swamp of Sorrows.

The run is relatively peaceful if you're in a small group of level 40+ players. It's peaceful because, despite the fact that all the maps yer running through are "contested" the truth of the matter is that the horde rarely venture into these maps. Because of that the Alliance lowbies that quest there (contested areas with zero horde quests...nice) bascially have a "scatalogical incident" in their pants when a group of horde ride up. If you're of a mind to drop a small, steaming pile of payback down a lowbie's collar on the way by...by all means, do so.

As Mack alluded to, a tour through these "contested" areas can be a real eye-opener. The Alliance have free run of these maps and aren't making very good use of them if judging by their littered skeletons along the way. I mean, the only other places I've ever seen that many bones in a road at one time was in Tarren Mill and Ogrimmar...after large Alliance raids. The difference here is that their bones are from mob kills and not Horde...it's a joke.

Anyway, if I'm not out watching Star Wars this evening, I'll be on and if I am, whisper me and I'll be glad to run you through the Alliance vacation/leisure spots. I do so enjoy running through their private "contested" reserves and flying the Horde flag.

:D

Thank you kind sir.

I shall take you up on your offer. The Badlands is great grinding but I have 2 quests to turn in to SoS and would appreciate you conducting the the train into the swamp. As an aside I need me an Illusionary Rod http://www.thottbot.com/?i=3228

I guess I'll have to fine a Scarlet Monastery group.

Barks,
I actually have to go there tonight, so I can join the little run for some added laughs. The quest I'm working on takes me there and to Dustwallow, so we can do this. Mack you want to join us, or did you already get the Flameberge from there? Anyway, see you tonight sometime Barks and someone will make sure you get the flight path.

Normally our tour goes straight through the town... :D

I did the whole thing last night....

It was really easy... got ganked in Gadget turning the quest in, and someone used a swiftness potion to try to catch me on foot as I rode out of town... but all in all, it was a cinch.

I can run you guys through the rest of that tonight... I picked up and finished a quest out in Tanaris that involved cogging on those white lumps that are in the desert... shitty quest, 1/2-way decent return, got a staff that sold for around 2g.. The illusionary rod pwns all still.

Finished up one loose end, and aside from 1 delivery in BB that I've been sitting on for weeks, and the second part of the Goblin Sponsorship... I'm free and clear of quests... which is a problem, but not really.

That does remind me, I still am 3/4 of the way done with the Uldaman quests... I just need a few more shrooms, mor power stone things, and then I can get rid of those grays... I could use a hand with that though... I wear cloth.

Sounds good. I somehow figured you finished it. I got the rest of the spider legs at lunch so I just need SOS and DWM, the turn in. I also did the one with the lumps in the dirt. Wasn't so bad for me since I was able to stealth by most of the MOBS to get to them. Only had to fight a few. Not that they were hard to fight, just kept looking over shoulder for gankers out there. I have quests to do, but most are dungeons or elites, and I really want to grind and make lvl too. This quest will give a little XP to help with that.

See ya on tonight...

The question is, why the hell do our guards take 5 steps and stop and theirs will follow you across on the Zeplin and across 5 flight paths before deciding to turn back? Gh3y gh3y gh3y!

Indeed. RaiderOmega and I saw this very thing last evening as we were taking a tour of Alliance areas. We found ourselves at the front gate of Stormwind (a pretty impressive Alliance city for those who haven't seen it) and I went forward to agg the level 55+ guards there.

Long story short, we were MORE than halfway across the Elwynn Forest map before the guards simply came to a stop. At this, Raider and I stopped and rode back some...the guards just stood there. I rode real close to agg them...no dice. They don't retreat like Horde guards do...they stay there to make sure you are out and stay out. That and they run a freakin' marathon chasing you.

Oh...and it takes only one tour of Alliance territory to learn that the game is tilted toward Alliance quite markedly. Mobs were few and far between in Westfall and resources were quite plenty. I saw many herbs/flowers/mines in this lvl 10-20 Alliance area. Not at all like you get around Brill or Razor Hill for example.

And when I put more time distance from the event...I'll describe the curious lag issue we encountered last evening that culminated in a group of rogues magically appearing to gank us the moment the lagfest stopped...

Hehe, I've mentioned this before, but you are suffering from a one sided factional bias. When I was alliance on Archimonde, we were always commenting on how horde biased Blizzard is. Horde guards were tougher, horde had better racial spells, etc....This game is very balanced. Amazingly balanced IMO. How each class can destroy any other class when played well, both factions are balanced....they did a great job with this game. Combine the balance with the quest system which alleviates the "grinding" feel, and you have a great game.

P.S. - guards will follow as long as they are being attacked....attacks stop, so do the guards. Attacks include things like fear, healing, etc.

I disagree with that. I've been in Darkshire and decided to turn tail and run. My dots wore off and the guards chased me almost all the way back to Gromgol before deciding I was really leaving for good. They were relentless in their pursuit...scaringly so to be honest. As a warlock with no real heals other than potions and my healthstone (and death coil of course), noone was healing and my dots had long since faded. They were HELLA pissed at me. Maybe a fluke..but I can tell you, it'll be a long while before I harass that village again.

Strange, as long as I don't attack, they usually break in about 10 seconds.
